The filling of your pillow is incredibly important as it decides the soft or firmness of your pillow. If you love your head being cradled, choose a feather filling. If you like firmness, choose springy memory foam. If you prioritize support, choose a polyester filling (which is the cheapest option amongst all)
The size of your pillow is also an important factor as it should be proportionate to the size of your bed! However, you don’t always have to play by the rules in this case. If you love huge pillows to roll around in, what’s anybody going to say about it?
The way that your pillow is packaged will also determine its firmness. The more tightly packed it is, the firmer it will become. So don’t worry if you change your mind halfway, you can always get your pillow re-packed.

If you sleep on your side, a more hollow and heavier pillow should be the case so you can fill the gaps between your neck and the bed. If you sleep on your back or your front, a flatter pillow would be better to balance out your head.
